1. The Calendar View

Layout Orientations

Lineár offers two orientations for viewing your year:

Horizontal

Months are displayed as horizontal rows, with days running left to right. This is the default layout.

Vertical

Months are displayed as vertical columns, with days running top to bottom — similar to a wall planner.

Day Arrangement Modes

Within each orientation, you can choose how days are arranged:

Linear Mode

Days are aligned by weekday. All Mondays line up in the same column (horizontal) or row (vertical), making it easy to see weekly patterns. The header shows repeating weekday letters (M, T, W, T, F, S, S).

Regular Mode

Days are aligned by day number. All 1st days line up, all 2nd days line up, and so on — 31 columns (horizontal) or 31 rows (vertical). The header shows day numbers 1–31.

Visual Indicators

Weekend highlighting — Weekend days have a tinted background, respecting your locale’s weekend definition.
Today indicator — Today’s cell is highlighted with a colored border and background.
Today line — A line with a dot marks the current day across the whole year. Its color is adjustable, and it can be turned off in Settings.
Event bars — Events appear as colored bars spanning one or more days. Multi-day events stretch across the corresponding cells. In vertical mode, event bars are rotated to span vertically.
Week numbers — Optional week-of-year numbers can be shown as watermarks or on top of events.

Tap any event to open its details. Tap an empty cell to dismiss the detail panel.

2. Navigation Bar — iPhone

The iPhone toolbar uses icon buttons to save space. Here is every control from left to right:

☰	distribute.horizontal.left.fill / distribute.vertical.bottom.fill	Toggle Orientation — Switches between Horizontal and Vertical layout. The icon shows the current orientation.
+	plus	New Event — Create a new event on the current day. Requires Lineár Pro.
⇪	square.and.arrow.up	Export — Export the calendar as a PDF file.
⚙	gearshape.fill	Settings — Open the settings panel to customize appearance.

On iPhone, pinch to zoom in and out on the calendar. Swipe horizontally with force to switch years.

3. Navigation Bar — iPad & Mac

The wider toolbar on iPad and Mac uses labeled segmented pickers and additional controls:

[ Horizontal \| Vertical ]	Orientation Picker — Switch between Horizontal and Vertical layout.
minus.magnifyingglass • 100% • plus.magnifyingglass	Zoom Controls — Zoom out, current zoom level, zoom in.
arrow.up.left.and.arrow.down.right	Fit to Width — Automatically adjusts zoom so the calendar fits the available width.
plus	New Event — Create a new event on the current day. Requires Lineár Pro.
printer	Print — Print the calendar. Mac only
square.and.arrow.up	Export as PDF — Export the calendar year as a PDF document.
gearshape.fill	Settings — Open the settings panel.

4. Calendar Filter Bar

Below the navigation bar, a row of calendar buttons lets you quickly toggle which calendars are visible. On iPhone, this row scrolls horizontally.

Calendar Buttons

Each button shows the calendar name with its color. The buttons appear in the order you set in the sidebar.

Tap — Toggle the calendar on or off. Disabled calendars appear dimmed.
Long press — Show only this calendar (all others are hidden). Long press again to re-enable all calendars.

Event Filter Buttons

Two additional filter buttons appear after the calendar buttons:

1⃞	1.square / 1.square.fill	Hide Single-Day Events — When active, only multi-day events are shown. Useful for seeing vacations and longer commitments.

5. Calendar Sidebar

The sidebar lists all your calendars from iCloud, Google, Exchange, and other sources. Open it with the sidebar button in the navigation bar.

Calendar Rows

Color dot — Tap to open a color picker and customize the calendar’s display color. You can choose from a palette of preset colors or pick a custom color. Use the reset button to restore the original color.
Calendar name — Tap to toggle the calendar’s visibility. A checkmark indicates the calendar is visible.
Account name — Shown below the calendar name in smaller text.

Reordering

Drag calendars to rearrange their order. On Mac, use the grip handle (line.3.horizontal) on the left. On iPhone and iPad, drag the row directly.

The calendar order affects three things: the order of buttons in the filter bar, the order of calendars in the sidebar, and which events appear on top when multiple events overlap on the same day.

Bulk Actions

At the bottom of the sidebar:

Show All — Make all calendars visible.
Hide All — Hide all calendars.

6. Event Details

Tap an event bar to view its details. On Mac and iPad in landscape, the detail panel appears as a sidebar. On iPhone and iPad in portrait, it slides up as a sheet.

Information Shown

Icon	Field	Description

calendar	Date & Time	Start and end date/time. All-day events show dates only.
clock	Duration	For multi-day events: number of days. For timed events: hours and minutes.
location	Location	Event location, if set.
note.text	Notes	Event notes or description.
link	Link	Attached URL, shown as a clickable link.

Tap Edit in the detail panel to change the event, or use the plus button to create one. See Creating & Editing Events.

On Mac, hover over an event bar for a quick tooltip preview without opening the full detail panel.

7. Creating & Editing Events

Lineár 2.0 adds full event editing, so you can shape your year without leaving the app. Editing is part of Lineár Pro (see below). Viewing your calendar is always free.

Creating an Event

Toolbar — Tap the add button (plus) in the navigation bar. The new event is prefilled on the current day.
Long press a day — Press and hold any day cell and choose New Event to create an event on that day.

Editing an Event

Open an event’s details, then tap Edit. You can change:

Field	Description
Title	The event name.
Calendar	Move the event to any of your writable calendars.
All-day	Switch between an all-day and a timed event.
Start & End	Date and time. The end follows along when you move the start past it.
Location, URL, Notes	Free-text details for the event.
Reminders	Add or remove alerts (at the time, or 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 1 day before).
Repeat	Open the recurrence editor to make the event repeat.

Tap Save to apply your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

Repeating Events

The recurrence editor controls how an event repeats: frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly), an interval (“every N”), weekday selection for weekly events, and an end (never, on a date, or after a number of occurrences).

When you save or delete a repeating event, Lineár asks whether the change applies to This Event only or to All Future Events.

Deleting an Event

In edit mode, tap Delete and confirm. For a repeating event, choose whether to delete just this occurrence or all future occurrences.

Lineár Pro

Editing is unlocked by Lineár Pro, a one-time purchase with no subscription. Your first 10 edits are free to try; after that, Lineár Pro unlocks unlimited creating, editing, and deleting. Viewing your calendar always stays free.

Unlock from Settings → Lineár Pro, or the first time you start an editing action.
One purchase covers Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and can be shared with your family.
Already bought it? Use Restore Purchases in Settings.

Calendar Access

Lineár asks for access to your calendars the first time you open it. Without it, the app stays empty — there is nothing to show and nothing to edit.

If you declined, deleting and reinstalling Lineár will not ask again: your answer is stored by the system, not by the app. Lineár shows a banner at the top of the window with a button that takes you straight to the right place — System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars on Mac, or Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars on iPhone and iPad. Switch Lineár on and your events appear.

Can’t pick a calendar when creating an event? Subscribed calendars — holidays, shared feeds, and birthdays — are read-only, and no app can add events to them. Create your own calendar in the Calendar app and it will show up in Lineár.

8. Settings

Open Settings with the gear button (gearshape.fill) or ⌘, on Mac.

Presets

Quick-apply a complete color theme. Choose from:

Yellow — Yellow weekend highlighting (default)
Green — Green weekend highlighting
B&W — Neutral grey weekend highlighting
High Contrast — Thicker grid lines, bolder fonts, red today highlight

Colors

WeekendBackground color for weekend days.
GridColor and opacity of grid lines between day cells.
TodayHighlight color for today’s date (border and background tint).
Today LineColor of the today line that marks the current day across the year (red by default).
InactiveBackground color for empty cells (days that don’t exist in shorter months).
Week NumbersColor of the optional week number watermarks.

Typography

Headers FontFont family, variant, weight, and size for month names, weekday labels, and day numbers.
Events FontFont family, variant, weight, and size for event bar text.

Each font has a size adjustment slider (50%–150%) for fine-tuning.

Layout

Month LabelsShow month labels on the Left, Right, or Both sides of the calendar.
Day NumbersShow day numbers inside cells (in Linear mode).
Week NumbersShow ISO week numbers as watermarks in the background.
Week Numbers on TopDisplay week numbers above event bars instead of behind them.
Sticky HeaderPin the header row (weekdays or month names) at the top when scrolling vertically.
Sticky Left ColumnPin the left column (month labels or day numbers) when scrolling horizontally. Like freezing a column in a spreadsheet.
Compact ModeDynamically adjusts month row heights based on event density, fitting more on screen.

Display

Event TimesShow start times on event bars (e.g., “09:00 Meeting”).
Today HighlightHighlight today’s column/row and header cell.
Today LineShow a line with a dot marking the current day across the whole year. On by default.
Max EventsMaximum number of event lanes visible per day (1–8). Events beyond this limit show a “+N” overflow indicator.

Interactions Mac

Event Hover TooltipShow a tooltip popup when hovering over an event bar.
Hover DelayTime before the tooltip appears (0.1s–2.0s).

Lineár Pro

Unlock EditingBuy Lineár Pro to unlock event editing, or see your purchase once it’s unlocked.
Restore PurchasesRestore Lineár Pro on a new device or after reinstalling.

9. Export & Print

Lineár can export your entire year calendar as a PDF document.

Export as PDF All Platforms

Tap the export button (square.and.arrow.up) to open the paper settings sheet. Configure:

Paper size — Square, A4, A3, Letter, Legal, Tabloid
Orientation — Portrait or Landscape

On iPhone and iPad, the PDF is shared via the system share sheet. On Mac, you choose where to save the file.

Print Mac

Use the print button (printer) or ⌘P to print directly. The same paper settings sheet appears first, then the standard macOS print dialog.
